🚩 Budapest’s Market Halls are a must visit when in Budapest! They offer a glimpse of the everyday life of the locals:
1. Great Market Hall (Nagy Vásárcsarnok):
Located by the Danube River on the Pest side, near the iconic Liberty Bridge, this is the most famous market hall in Budapest.
Built in the 19th century, it’s a bustling fresh food market with stalls selling fruits and vegetables to meats, spices, and pastries.
Don’t miss the street food vendors offering traditional Hungarian dishes like goulash, langos, and chimney cake.
2. Downtown Market Hall (Hold Street):
Located within walking distance of the Hungarian Parliament, this market hall is less touristy but equally charming.
Its interior resembles the Great Market Hall but on a smaller scale.
Locals love it for its authenticity and variety of goods.
3. Rákóczi Market Hall: Found near tram 4/6 on the Pest side, it’s a vibrant spot for fresh produce and local products.
4. Klauzál Square Market Hall: Located in the old Jewish District (awaiting restoration), it’s a piece of Budapest’s history.

📌 Györ is one of the most important cities in Hungary. The city has a population of about 130 000 people. It’s located on the Danube River. The river has brought people, trade, and wealth to the region throughout history. In the 18th century, the city prospered and that is when most of the beautiful Old Town was built. Despite heavy damage to the city in the Second World War Györ has been extensively renovated since the 1970s.
📌 Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia with a population of about 475 000 people. The location of Bratislava has been inhabited continuously for almost 7000 years. The city is situated on the Danube River that has brought people, wealth, and trade to the area. For a long time Bratislava was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. It is under the 18th-century reign of Queen Maria Theresa that the city truly flourished. After the First World War Bratislava became part of Czechoslovakia and the population of Czechs and Slovaks in the city grew. The city became the capital of Slovakia after the Velvet Divorce in 1993 when Slovak Republic separated from the Czech Republic.
📌 Lednice Palace and Grounds is a fabulous example of wealth the nobility had in Europe in the 19th century. The Lichtenstein family had huge landholdings in the area that they had gathered gradually over the centuries through conquering, marrying, and buying. It was their loyalty to the Habsburg dynasty that raised the Lichtensteins to great prominence in the Austria-Hungarian Empire.
